Post by Bladeforce »

Hi, what's the chances of Wine working with Ubuntu Phone when it's released?

They'll be ARM CPUs... so you could make an ARM based version just like now.

The problem is you'll still not be able to run x86 Windows software on it without an x86 compatible CPU... so there will be no real usefulness to it.

Well, i'm not sure if it will be ARM based, most likely yes, but i think they also consider x86 AFAIK.
And what about xmir, is that enough for Wine? i don't know, maybe we need a mir driver...
But in general i think an Ubuntu Phone/Touch port is much easier than an Android port, and that already "works" somehow on AJs machine

I didn't think they'd do x86... but it looks like they will

according to this link, their high end tablet CPU... it looks like an x86 version will be possible and likely, even if most are not x86.

You should be able to use Qemu to emulate x86 and then run Wine.

It makes things slower but phones are so fast that you still should be able to run some games and whatever you want.
