Ubuntu 12.04: Strange application scenario

Post by 2cool4me4 »

Hello there, and welcome me to the forums.

I am trying to run a very specialized application in Ubuntu, Chrysler Starparts. It's an application that allows Chrysler service pros get information about parts. Anyway, from what I can tell, it's all written in Java. Now, this shouldn't be a problem, but if you go to its website (http://starparts.chrysler.com/), you cannot install it, as the Java applet on the website downloads an EXE file to the computer (I understand that the .exe is simply a program to install more jarfiles)! This is a very specialized and maybe impossible scenario, but with Windows being so expensive, I would like to keep the costs down on a PC that I'm building.
How can you get:
1) Java to install in order to run inside of Firefox or IE
2) The Java applet to install the program correctly and then run it

So, does anyone think that this is possible? Do you need more information? I'll be happy to help with whatever I can in this case!
