64bit Linux Mint

Post by Tony_photoplus »

I have just installed Linux Mint14 and have tried to use WINE but it doesn't seem to be working. For instance have tried to load up 7zip file manager and it told me (depite just downloading it) that it wasn't there. Have tried loading other items and again it wouldn't have it. Any help please - Thank you

Tony, I am also a recent convert in the process of jumping out of windows and into the world of Linux. In other words, the blind attempting to lead the blind. But may I ask, are you sure Wine is properly installed? I have been running my PC in multi-boot mode (one installation of windows XP, and 64-bit Mint 14 installed separately in two separate partitions).

In my first installation of Mint 14 which I did a couple of months ago, Wine is installed, and though it has a few bugs, it works well for the most part. However, for the past week or two, I have attempted to install Wine on the second Mint partition. Exact same version of Mint, on the very same hardware, but for reasons beyond me, I cannot get Wine installed on that second partition. So my suggestion would be to confirm that Wine is properly installed.

(Sorry if this post seems kind of dumb, but I am a newbie to Linux.)
