Hi,
Since a few days (I don't know exactly when it started since i didn't use Wine in december and early january), after a while, every game i run in Wine starts slowing down, and finally freezes.
This is really strange since my system does not lose its responsiveness (i can switch easily to a TTY to do a "wineserver -k").
I noticed when that a kworker/x.x (with numbers instead of x's) process is eating around 65% of one of my cores when it happens, and my computer gets a bit hot (85°C for the graphics core). I cannot kill the kworker, even as superuser, but it disappears if i do a suspend/resume cycle.
All apps concerned by this problem used to work well (full 60fps or nearly in 2012) before.
The bug happens both with Intel driver and nVidia driver (i have bumblebee running, it was working fine before).
Native apps, even the big ones like X3 Reunion, or Team Fortress 2 don't have this bug, so it may have something to do with wine.
My specs :
Ubuntu 12.10
Linux 3.8rc6 (the bug also happens in 3.7 and 3.5)
Wine 1.5.22 (ubuntu ppa)
latest nvidia and intel drivers from xorg-edgers (the bug also happens with the stable ones)
I'm asking for help here because I double checked everything and tried reverting all the unstable pieces of software, I still have this kworker issue. I'm pretty sure it's causing the heat problem, since nothing changed in my computer, and native games run fine.
kworker issue
Re: kworker issue
Not a Wine issue; it's a kernel bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/887793
