Did I make a big mistake?

Post by Simon of Aragon »

Recently I've been hounded to upgrade my OS from Maverick 10.10 to the current 12.04 so yesterday I burned a disk and did a fresh install. After that I added my Nvidia driver without issues and setup all the other programs the way I like. To be honest, I don't noticed any "improvements" on the system for the last 2 years.

So I downloaded the latest and greatest wine 1.5.22 on the machine and now nothing runs under wine. :(
Here is an example of a simple game "Clue Classic" that no longer runs. And yes I have been digging through this forum for answers. Unless someone can tell me what I am doing wrong... I will just revert back to my 10.10 and wine 1.3. I keep the OS on seperate drive so reverting is just backing up my personal documents.

I really do what this to work so I won't give up right away but this weekend is a big online game event for me. I was chosen to Alpha test a game so I will need to get it up before that ground hog sees his shadow. LoL

Did you reinstall your Wine apps to clean wineprefixes after upgrading your OS? If not, try that.

Also, read the sticky at the top of the forum about Ubuntu 12.04.

Yeah I did all that... but I really needed to upgrade my brain!

After all day of trying different builds from 1.3 to 1.5 and configs and wine default crud... I decided to try another approach. I installed Play on Linux, and you can say what you want about those boys... but right away the debugger told me what an idiot I am.

Remeber what I said above about, "I keep the OS on seperate drive". *sigh* My newly upgrade system formated all the tweaks I had before and I missed this one.

I had to fix my etc/fstab file to reflect the fact that I had executable programs on my other drive.

/dev/sdb1 /media/drive_d auto rw,auto,user,exec 0 0

Well maybe this information will assist others that have partitions or multiple HDDs.
