Has anyone had success with MS Windows JMP statistical software under Wine in any Linux distro?
In the appdb I only found one recent (almost 2 years ago, now) frustrating experience where JMP used to run OK under Wine on Ubuntu. See forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=11788
I only have access to the Windows version of the excellent JMP graphical statistical software where I am. It would be great if it can run under Wine.
(There is a JMP Linux version, but the price is far to high for me).
I am new to Wine and have not yet installed it. I may install it when I build a new, more powerful computer, hopefull soon.

Hi,
don't take this personally, but it's quite pointless to ask people in this forum, if they have tested software xxxx. With only a few hundred people actively following this forum, how big will be the chance, that somebody is actually using the same not so widespread software?
If you don't want to play recent games, you don't need a powerful computer to run wine. Any computer that can run a current linux with KDE/Gnome should be sufficient.
Just test your application, if the graphical issues should still be there, file a bug report and provide a link to a demo version, if possible. You could add a test report to appdb, too.

Thanks, lahmbi5678, for confirming my dour conclusions based on prior requests by others interested in getting JMP under Wine to work--and for amplifying your reply with helpful comments and suggestions.
It's a tribute to the gamers, mainly, for making what progress there is. I only wish that someone had already succeeded in piggybacking on their efforts for data analysis with JMP under Windows or that among that small group of mainly gamers there was another data geek.
I will see what I can do....

Hi,
afaiu JMP doesn't even have a test report in appdb, this usually means that not many people are using it under wine. If you are actually testing it under wine, please update appdb accordingly.
Thinking about it, you might have better luck in a JMP related forum finding other JMP/wine users. Did you already look in the JMP community forum for linux related topics?

Yes, I searched there in the JMP forum and found no record of anyone asking about it.
My best luck was here and in Ubuntu. But that luck was not good luck.
I also checked on the very expensive Linux version. Bad news there too as development stopped back 2 versions ago. The current and last JMP versions only are available under Windows and OS X.
