New apps for wine

Post by nick »

Hi all this is my first post, so if I need to be directed to other places, thanks for the assistance in advance.
I,ve been attempting to wean my family off windoze for some time, and now have a few boxes and laptops running fc8.

I've set up the latest version of Wine and have successfully installed Myob v13 (with a few glitches: date format is not correct for Australia, despite altering the format in the[international] part of the registry, and an inability to customise my invoices with a bitmap image.

I've attempted to install a program called "StockmarketPlus", but the installation process fails with "cannot connect to database, allocation of handle failed". I've had a bit of a dig, and found the program came with Sybase.

The last program I'm having difficulty with s a chart program with GPS input, and the initial problems are with the lack of scalable fonts(.fot) and running a 256 color screen. I've got an Xscreen up, but not connected to the program.

My command line skills are basic but improving, and coding knowledge patchy, but I'd like to be part of increasing the number of apps that can be run with Wine.

Hi Nick

That's interesting that you were able to run MYOB 13.

I've been trying to use MYOB 14.1, and it runs OK, but I can't get it to
print invoices.
See http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t ... light=myob

Were you able to print successfully?

I got around "custom" invoice selection by transferring in the old
customised form and deleting everything else. I have the advantage that
I only ever send out one type of invoice anyway.

I didn't actually check the date format, but as I was using a "company"
file I had already set up in Windows, that may have set the formatting
appropriately.

Hi Russell,
I didn't mention some of my quick and dirty work-arounds! I've printed some lovely blank invoices as well, but the workaround is : save a pdf to a folder in a linux directory and print from there.
I understand Fc8 has been having issues with their updates recently (a Hal update broke any hardware recognition on a laptop). I've removed the hal updates from my yum file until I hear more.

Well, I tried printing to a cups-pdf printer, but got no file. How did
you manage to produce the pdf?

Ah: with evince. If you have an invoice go to send to> save as pdf in some folder> open with evince and print. You may gather I don't print a huge number of invoices! I'm sure the above process could be automated, though.

OK, nick, thanks

The workaround is to open the invoice in the "Sales" window, then do a
"Send to" - file, when it generates a pdf. I hadn't thought to look there.

I'll put it on the other thread about printing from MYOB also

Regards
