Problem with fonts in P7Napper

Post by GarryB »

I can't get a Windows video downloader app called P7Napper to show text properly. It uses the Microsoft Sans Serif and Verdana fonts.

Here is a screen dump of what I get:

I have used Winetricks to download allfonts. However, that didn't fix the problem.

The all fonts pack was missing Microsoft Sans Serif.ttf. So, I copied that file from the OS X fonts folder to c:\windows\fonts but no better result (also tried renaming to micross.ttf but no better result).

In case it would help, I tried adding a new text key to the External Fonts item in the Windows Registry but, I can't get Registry Editor to save changes to the Registry. Well anyway, my new entry was gone when I went back later on.

I just can't figure this one out. Can anyone help ?

I don't know if the OSX font will work... have you tried getting the correct Font from Windows?

The real problem seems to be with Verdana. Verdana 8.25pt is used in the rich text boxes while MS San Serif is only used in the window title. Nonetheless, I copied in a Windows native MS San Serif.ttf and added an external link to the OS X file in the Windows Registry. Still gibberish.

There is a copy of Verdana in c:\windows/fonts that came with the allfonts Winetricks script. There are also a number of Windows registry entries which look fine to me.

I'm still getting gibberish.

I'll try a Windows native copy of verdana.ttf. That might be better than the WineTricks version.

Cheers.

Well, that was a bust too. I copied in a Windows native verdana.ttf file (to replace the file provided by WineTricks). Still, I just get gibberish.

I'm stumped.

Check the wineprefix's fonts directory for any strange fonts--ones you didn't install. Sometimes one app will install a font that will get picked up as the default by other apps in the same wineprefix.
