After searching online for hours, I have come to the conclusion that the bannings may have a reason besides that you used WINE to play Diablo 3.
I started playing the game with Windows 7.
Then I tried it out on Ubuntu using WINE, mainly to test out performance.
And after a long break from the game, I started it up again because I was bored. This time back on Windows 7.
2 days later, I'm banned.
My guess is that they did not like me switching OSes... Or Warden doesn't. And thinks I was cheating.
Anyhow, I will have to wait for Blizzard to respond to my ticket to see if I can reclaim my account back...
Since we apparently have many actively playing WINE users here, some people may have not thought about the case of playing on multiple OSes and would feel like they got the short end of the stick... Which is dumb cos you could've gone to a Net cafe or a friend's house... I will know more once I get a reply, but just a heads up to those who are considering playing D3 on WINE but also switch between OSes.

Re: Diablo 3 Bannings
Welcome to the club, I got banned today
and here is the answet to my ticket:
Greetings,
A user of this account has recently been involved in actions deemed inappropriate for Diablo III. The action taken on this account was made after a thorough investigation of the situation as a whole, so we can confirm that the evidence presented was correct, and that the subsequent action taken was appropriate in accordance with the Terms of Use (http://eu.blizzard.com/en-gb/company/legal/).
It is with regret that we have to take this type of action. However, it is in the best interest of the Diablo III community as a whole, and for the integrity of the game, that we have cancelled your access to the Diablo III servers. Our decision in this matter stands, and will not be overturned.
Please note it is our policy never to reveal details regarding account investigations, beyond the information given in the original notice mail, for privacy and security reasons.
If you wish to review our current Rules and Policies, they can be found at:

Any open bids or auctions at the time of the account’s closure have been cancelled. Your open bids will be refunded to your original method of payment. Please allow 5-10 days for processing depending on the availability of your financial institution. Any bids or auctions completed prior to the account’s closure will not be refunded or reversed.
Any heroes or items associated with the account are no longer accessible. The only way to continue playing Diablo III is to purchase a new licence. If you add a new Diablo III licence, the new account will overwrite your old account and any prior heroes or items will be permanently erased.
We understand that these policies may seem harsh, but they are in place to ensure that every player is able to fully enjoy their time spent on Battle.net.
Thank you for respecting our position.
Best regards,
Game Master Zhafarion

Re: Diablo 3 Bannings
Update: I have sent in a ticket, and got an automated reply.
I sent another ticket in asking for a non-automated reply; they replied with response that had 2 lines extra lines in front of the automated response.
So I sent in yet another ticket... this might take a while...

Hm, even if it is reproducible, that playing D3 from a Linux and Windows installation (without hacks of course) leads to banning, they probably won't listen to you. Maybe they'd listen to a company like Codeweavers or to some gaming magazine. Or maybe you will have to sue them. Might be a good question, how to independently prove that their banning algo is sometimes wrong, you'd need a lawyer to install D3 on Linux and Windows on his computer, then wait for the things to happen. In my opinion this is way too much hassle for such a game.

They covered their asses for sure, they can ban anyone, at anytime, for any reason according to their ToS...lahmbi5678 wrote:Hm, even if it is reproducible, that playing D3 from a Linux and Windows installation (without hacks of course) leads to banning, they probably won't listen to you. Well I'm at my 4th attempt to get them to unban me...
No idea why they would even think that I cheated with only one 60+1 character (and many hardcore characters that died in act 1 XD) since the game launched, maybe because I got a legendary drop (lvl 17 item lol) meant it flags me to be checked?? Then it would mean that WINE = ban, but the system just doesn't flag it until something else does? I doubt it, because there are many WINE players, and I'm sure there are more than a few legendary drops there

So the only thing I differ from the actively playing WINE people is that I switched OSes a few times, from Windows -> Ubuntu -> Windows...
I'm annoyed because I finally got a HC character past normal lol... then went to sleep, woke up and boom, I'm banned...

Re: Diablo 3 Bannings
If the 'offending behaviour' inlcudes switching between Windows and Linux clients and levelxx drops, then it will be quite hard to reproduce it reliably (in short time), maybe even the order of switching from e.g. Windows to Linux before or after the level drop might play a role. Only the Blizzard guys themselves can easily reproduce that, and as I said, they probably won't listen.
