i was a huge fan of the first one - having clocked several hundered hours over too many characters, but it was fun - and was eagerly anticipating the pre order of gw2. until i got a mac.
enter: wine. hopefully this is the key that lets me unlock it. anyway, how well will gw2 run with wine and these specs?

(the OS is OSX mountain lion i believe)
Intel HD Graphics 4000 - thats my big concern

Nope, the intel Graphics isn't going to cut it. I have the late 2010 MBP i5 17"and the game runs fine in wine on (mostly) medium settings. But the 17" MBPs have Nvidia cards. Intel HDs are decent for what they are, but they are not good enough to run any 3D games are you well know. Even in windows with bootcamp I don't think it would work well, add in the translation layer and your really asking for it.
You may now start complaining about the lack of 17" MBP in the new retina line up, while trying to by a new MBP.
P.S. Fix your hard drive when you can, MBPs run much better with SSDs or Hybrids, Even 7200s are better then the greenies they throw in.
