Hello dear all,
my windows game plays mp3 sounds. (the game is C-evo)
the game runs fine under wine except for mp3 sounds.
my platform is Fedora 9-WINE 1.0.
The audio test in winecfg works fine.
Trying to solve the problem, I"ve installed a mp3 Fraunhofer codec in wine (an exe file) ; problem remains.
At linux level I have no mp3 codec installed.
Does any one has a clue to such problem ?

sampling rates (that's speculation). Use winecfg to disable winemp3.acm
(like with a dll, there is also a disabling/deactivation option). You
have to type in the name completely and wine will warn you about doing
something with this.. but you still should. After this the Frauenhofer
codec you installed should be used instead.

Dear Jochen,
Thanks for your reply,
Some files may be played, but for a so short duration that I can hardly hear anything
) !!!
Auditing my mp3 files generates the following report:
IDv3 tag missing,
various bit-rates :
some are CBR,
some are VBR.
some sampling rate at 32000,
some sampling rate at 22050,
some in joint stereo,
some in 1 mono,
all with volume gain set to 0.
Furthermore, I noticed that WINE 1.0 provides settings in the Audio tab.
Seems like it expects unified mp3 specs, especially for sampling rates.
Q1 : Do you have information on the winemp3.acm constrains ?
My guess is that one clue could be unify theses specs to a format that works (yet unknown !!!)
Could be a lot of work, consequently unsure mainly because of time consumption.
Q2 : I've not found how to disable winemp3.acm yet, do you have any clue ? (I'm sorry to ask, I may have missed some point in the wine documentation)
Q2 edit : I think I got the entry point : what I did in winecfg :
In Library (translation) tab :
In the new override text field (translation) I've typed in "winemp3.acm", clicked Add (translation), then select the matching new entry below, clicked on Modify (translation) then set to it disabled (translation).
Again in the new override test field I've typed in "I3codecx.acm"(name of the installed audio codec) , clicked Add, then select the matching new entry below, clicked on Modify to set it to "Native then included"
Thanks for your support, at least I have an idea where to search ...
Bye

mp3s in a video like you had, and found a solution on the net, which I
then used and improved. That's all. If you want to improve wine, talk
with the developers.. probably best on the devlopers mailing list.
will find a drop-down-box where you can select dlls, but where you can
also write text. There you write winemp3.acm, and add the library (the
button right besides the dropdown box). After that you can edit the
setting for the library (mark winemp3.acm and press the button below the
button for adding it) and select in the option list to
deactivate/turn-off/disable (last option) it. Then you are done.

You might want to try Wine 0.9.52; newer versions have problems playing MP3s.Dear Jochen,

Thanks Alexander for your answer .
I investigate various alternatives of wine. but no success.
On the other side, I installed audacity in Wine in order to play theses damned mp3 files... which surprisingly worked. My conclusion for now is that Linux/Wine seem less and less responsible of my issue ...
