Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Saving

Post by phildaman46 »

I can't save my game while playing Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 with Wine 1.1.0. When I try to save it says something about checking my Save Game directory. I have Wine configured so My Documents is set to Documents in my home folder and thats where my saves should be.

Don't know anything about this game.
When I try to save it says something about checking my Save Game
directory.
And *what* does it say? *Something* is not enough to understand the problem.

I just told you. It says something like this "Check your Save Game directory". The saves are suppose to go in the "My Documents" folder which I have setup in the Wine Configurations so the saves go to the "Documents" folder in my Home folder. But my saves won't go there or anywhere.

It says something like this "Check your Save Game directory".
And there is really nothing about the 'why'? One possibility for your
problem could be, if you ever had run wine as root or with sudo. In such
a case the easiest fix would be the deletion of ~/.wine.

Maybe, one of the others have a more helpful hint. ;)

What your program says is not enough information; what Wine says is what's important. Post console output.

It seems that the game won't run in a terminal. All I get is this:

phildaman46@phildaman46:~$ wine '/media/Games/Program files/Rockstar Games/GTA San Andreas/gta_sa.exe'
fixme:system:SystemParametersInfoW Unimplemented action: 8193 (SPI_SETFOREGROUNDLOCKTIMEOUT)

phildaman46@phildaman46:~$ wine '/media/Games/Program files/Rockstar Games/GTA San Andreas/gta_sa.exe'
What happens if you run wine from within the directory:

$ cd '/media/Games/Program files/Rockstar Games/GTA San Andreas'

$ wine gta_sa.exe

That worked.
Sigh. You cannot do anything about the missing references, but you could
at least quote, about what you are speaking. Consider please, that your
article may not be read in the forum but in the mailing list.

After investigating the thread you have probably changed to
/media/Games/Program files/Rockstar Games/GTA San Andreas/ and run 'wine
gta_sa.exe' there.
Heres what I get up to the point of saving:
[...]
Nothing to be seen about the problem not to be able to save your game.
But i am wondering.

Each time when i start one of my own games i call a script, which
changes my working directory to the one beneath ~./wine, in which the
corresponding game.exe resides and run 'wine game.exe' there.

Guessing your paths i would do

cd '~/.wine/drive_c/Program files/Rockstar Games/GTA San Andreas/'
wine gta_sa.exe 2>&1 | tee ~/gta-log.txt

Hartmut Figge:
cd '~/.wine/drive_c/Program files/Rockstar Games/GTA San Andreas/'
And that will fail miserably. *g* Instead that should be
cd ~/.wine/'drive_c/Program files/Rockstar Games/GTA San Andreas/'
