Hi all!
I've just got a new machine (it's not great, but it was damn cheap), and I just put Ubuntu 11.10 on it. I wanted to get Battlefield 1942 running on it, as I'd had trouble with previous installs. I'd have hoped that it would be sorted by now, and I was encouraged by links on WineHQ with gold and platinum ratings for this game, reporting little or no errors.
I got the latest version of Wine, and tried installing. The main window popped up fine, asking for the language for the installer. Then the next box popped up fine, and I entered the code. After that, it freezes, and I get an error that "IKernel has encountered a serious error", and the install stops. I've seen a link describing the problem on here, (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18835), but seemingly no solution. This was from 3 years ago, and supposedly it has been solved in an update, so I'm confused why it should still cause a problem now.
If anyone has any ideas I'd welcome them.
Cheers!
