expanding wine desktop

Post by rtrdom »

Wine is installed in Ubuntu Gutsy. It shows up on desktop when called from
terminal. However it is only about 3 inches wide on 17 inch display. Cannot
get it to expand. Have tried all display modes on this machine. Does not help.
I can see when clicking on a tab, something happens but cannot tell the name
of the tab nor what it displays after clicking on it. Does anyone know how to
correct (expand) so it can be read?
Thanks.

What version of Wine? If you're not sure, try running wine with the
--version flag.

In winecfg, on the Graphics tab, what do you have for a Desktop size?

wine version

Post by rtrdom »

I would be happy to provide the information about the version but alas I get
the following with "wine -version" :wine: could not load L"c:\\windows\\system32\\-version.exe": Module not found." If I could read any of the tabs on the wine desktop, I could tell you the desktop size. I cannot read any of the
information on any part of the wine desktop. The only button I see is the close button (X) in the upper right and three buttons whose names are
indiscernible along the bottom of the wine desktop. I think I will have to remove wine and re-install it in order to be able to use the only program I
want to use there. That is Streets & Trips, because I travel a bit.
Thank you for your suggestions.

The command is

Code: Select all

wine --version
two dashes, not one.

Thanks for correcting me. using the --version it shows 0.9.46. I'm on a
short "holiday" so it may take me a while to get back to you. Thanks for
the respose.

That version is very old. Try upgrading to 1.0.

Thanks again for the help. I have succesfully updated to 1.0 by following
directions at: "http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... pdate+wine" (Thanks very much for the good
information jonathan.gardner04. I can now see the complete wine
desktop so I will attempt to install my program (if it isn't still here). If
I need more assistance, I will surely return to this post or perhaps a new
one.
Thank you demisio and Paul Johnson for your kind assistance. I will
consider this solved.
