Have you checked the AppDB yet? Always do that first. Zainin (Paul) is having the same problems. You never really know what issues might come from ATI Linux drivers.
There is a bunch of helpful fixes for EVE at the AppDB, though I saw none that fix your problem. You should still check it out. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=23787
Best of luck to you!

Have you tried disabling AMD's Cool & Quiet drivers?
You'll have to do this as "su -", apparently it doesn't work with sudo.
If it's too loud or whatever, you can disable it by:
Also, are you sure you downloaded the correct drivers?
Code: Select all
echo 'performance' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
If it's too loud or whatever, you can disable it by:
Code: Select all
echo 'ondemand' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
Thanks for the good wishes; Indeed I did consult the AppDB. I noticed that Paul was having the same problem but no results from it yet. I figure just tagging on "me too!" doesnt really help anybody much on the DB page.SpawnHappyJake wrote:Have you checked the AppDB yet? Always do that first. Zainin (Paul) is having the same problems. Once I hopefully sort this out, I will post a solution etc onto Paul's post on AppDB.
Entanglement - thanks for the suggestion. Will give it a try.
The noise factor isn't really a problem. Under Windows when running EVE it sometimes sounds like I'm starting up a Boeing!
Last small query about the driver disabling: Do I need to restart for effect, or is it immediate?

I have now also updated, and tested all different variants of options and WINEARCH for Wine 1.3.29.
No changes at all.
Max Framerates:
Docked w/o CQ: 22
Docked w CQ: 11
Undocked around station: 14
Undocked in empty space: 17
Undocked in mission pocket w/ rats etc: 9
Seems This problem just won't go away...[/u]

Thank you for this.DanKegel wrote:It's probably not a simple problem.
See http://wiki.winehq.org/Performance for some discussion.
I have gone through a whole range of the CPU tweaks, settings and "config" files.
Results are somewhat better. Nowhere near playable yet - but significant enough to warrant a nod.
What I am noticing from some of those articles as well, is that there is probably some amount of GPU scaling of the sort also going on.
Do you maybe have some more info on that?
I tried some google magic but came up empty. The only scaling options for GPU that I could find was the type that scales resolutions...

I come to the sudden and definite realization of why exactly I stopped trying with Linux/Wine to get anything done all those years ago.wheunis wrote:What the heck happened to my original author post?!
Thank to whoever the admin was that deleted my original post.
Goodbye.
Hopefully I won't forget in 5 years+ time and actually waste more time by coming back here.
Your original post is still in the mailing list archives. Why it is no longer on the forum, or even when it disappeared, I can only speculate. The archives do show a spam post on Oct. 4 that was deleted from this thread on the forum, and my guess is that somehow your original post got deleted along with it. As to whether it was an admin error or a website glitch, I don't know, but I am certain it was not intentional.wheunis wrote:I come to the sudden and definite realization of why exactly I stopped trying with Linux/Wine to get anything done all those years ago.wheunis wrote:What the heck happened to my original author post?!

IMO, given the help you have already been provided in this thread, your hostility is inappropriate.
