I am curious. There are online game sites tailored to work well with
windows which do not work well with Linux. For example:
http://www.pogo.com
Some of the games work, but others crash such as say "word whomp." This
happened to me in Fedora 10 and Ubuntu 10.10. Is there a way to open a
website using java pop-ups like 'word whomp' in wine with Linux? I
apologize for my ignorance concerning wine applications, as I've only
used it successfully to open VirtualDub in Ubuntu. If wine cannot be
configured to make these games work with Linux, is there any way to
solve this problem? Thank you for your consideration.
Can wine be used to view a webpage online?
Can wine be used to view a webpage online?
Thank you for response. The games work very well in windows internet explorer and also firefox. Although wine is not recommended, I am curious how it might be configured to do this.
Thank you.

Using wine for this is not recommed. Lot of cases it traces to either poorly writen web apps. Or worse private information snooping apps.
Thank you.

Few basic linux things to check first. If they are java games check what java linux is using. either openjdk or sun java is good. There are 3 other options that are not that great.
Flash games make sure you have adobe flash. You could be running gnash or something else that is not as complete.
Basically there is a good chance that the issue is solveable without turning to wine.

Not sure why it's crashing for you. I just played Word Whomp without any problems using native Firefox.Seth Abelove wrote:I am curious. There are online game sites tailored to work well with

As for using Wine, you'd have to install a browser and Java in Wine to try it.
