I would install that software correctly in linux. Most windows
application software will not run without properly being installed.

I'll second John's comment and add that Wine has difficulties running programs from within the Windows NTFS file structure.
The FAQ advises to install the program in the Linux file structure, but you are not forced to save files in the Linux file structure, although it is best to do so. If you can, create a third, FAT or FAT32 structure to save data to swap between Windows and Linux. Of course, this is NOT necessary if you are abandoning Windows.

If you hit part of the install that does not work. Do that
installation in the terminal and post the log output on pastebin.com.
Then possibly some of us can help. Remember that it's not always easy
or even possible to give a solution with just the information from the
log. So do not expect a quick answer. Also as always wine is not
complete (meaning not all of the windows API has been implemented) and
there are parts of the windows API that can never work under wine
(mostly direct hardware stuff or rootkits ..)

I think you would only need mdac for database connection.

winetricks mdac

Does the application have to run the MSSQL server on the local machine?

I have not tried. Is there a free download somewhere?

Please note that if there is a free download I can not test tonight.
It's 12 minutes after midnight here and I am just about to go to
sleep..

I can not always help quickly. I have a day job (very busy) that is
not at all related to wine.

This needs to be explained to you. Most, if not all of the folks that
have replied to you are volunteers. We all have 'day jobs'. Mine
takes up 12.5 hours of my day. I don't assume that others here have
the same situation, but they have families and other obligations.
CodeWeavers produces CrossOver which comes with paid support and a
dedicated staff to help resolve situations like yours. If that is the
level of support you are looking for (I've noticed that you have on
more than one occassion noted that you have time constraints in
getting APPAC to work under Linux.) They are very friendly and might
be better suited to assist you in resolving your situation at this
point. Remember, Wine support is mostly volunteer.

Sounds like my situation. I usually work 70 to 80 hours per week for
the day job (software and hardware development for medical imaging
research). On top of that I have been married within the last year.
It's spring here and my wife needs a lot of help around the house.

Dude, you really need to use Google for these questions. Exercise for
the student.

However, if these files are created by APPAC, then they probably are not
readable by any program you find through Google.

I actually started downloading and installing this over the weekend
but my wife needed my help in the yard. I will try again next weekend
if possible. I really can not even devote an hour to this during the
week.
