Ever 17: The Out of Infinity crashes on Wine

Post by GarrettR »

I have been trying to get the visual novel, Ever17, to run on Wine. I will click it and it will ask me if I want to run it as fullscreen or windowed. I choose my setting that I want. However, whenever I do, there will be the outline of a window and an error box stating, "ever17PC_us.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." If there is anyone who knows how to solve this problem who is also a visual novel-er as well, please tell me what I need to do to fix it. I am running Debian 7.8 Wheezy. Wine version is 1.4.1. Thanks in advance.

Try running it in an emulated virtual desktop (select it on the Graphics tab in winecfg).

You should also upgrade Wine; 1.4.1 is no longer supported.

Running it in the virtual desktop helped a little bit. However, it freezes after it shows the Hirameki international logo. I cannot upgrade from 1.4.1 on Wheezy. It will only let me go up to 1.4.1. I ran a sudo aptitude upgrade wine, and it just upgraded some libs, but running wine --version still shows wine 1.4.1. I will have to install Sid in order to get the latest version of wine. I don't feel comfortable doing that, though, because Sid is unstable. I don't even want to use Jessie until it is stable.
