Problems with sound and video when running team fortress

Post by Parkbench »

I am using version 1.0, and when I try to start team fortress 2, the loading and menu screen are all skewed and messed up, and the sound just loops over and over. Then when I quit, my screen resolution does not revert to what it's supposed to be.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

What video card and driver version?
Have you disabled compiz, pulse audio and in-game steam community?

Compiz is not installed, in-game community is disabled, and I'm using a nvidia 8600 gt and I have the driver that the restricted drivers thing told me to download, whatever it is. I don't know what changed, but now the audio and menu works, but the background of the main menu of the game is just black, and the words in the server list are just blocky and unreadable. In-game, there are black boxes all over the screen.

Are you used the command line ( -dxlevel 80 ) option to launch the game?
This solved my problem of corrupt graphics and texts in game.

Also, the fact your display resolution doesn't go back to how it was before, I think is due to a crash in you app.

Yep, it can also be another cause of the problem.
Use your desktop resolution in game and colors.
