dotnet20 failed to install
dotnet20 failed to install
I've only dabbled with Wine, but have used Linux for 16+ years or so, which probably puts me just past newbie. I would like very much to get the ONLY application running that I need that is only available for Windows - that being AutoCAD. Looking through the AppDB it looked like the 2006 version was working pretty well https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... n&iId=6035 I've worked my way through a few issues - like making sure I'm using a 32 bit prefix.
When trying to install AutoCAD it gets hung up on installing the .Net framework. I saw on the HQ page that I should install dotnet20 from the command line. It starts the installer and makes it about 1/3 of the way before failing. I tried this using:
winetricks dotnet20
And here is the output from the command line:

Sort of strange that the output would say Mono isn't installed, as I show that I have the package 'mono-runtime' installed. Don't know if I need one of the associated library files. I also have the packages p11-kit, libp11-kit0, libp11-kit-dev, libp11-2, libkntlm4, and libheimntlm0-heimdal installed as well, but it doesn't look like it's happy with p11 or ntlm.
I tried using Q4Wine and PlayOnLinux GUI management systems which I couldn't get dotnet20 installed on my prefix I defined. I'm probably missing something fairly obvious, so I decided to send up a flare rather than waste more hours putting around with this. Anyone chuck a dog a bone?

Re: dotnet20 failed to install
Start by upgrading Wine; 1.4.1 is over two years old and no longer supported.
The mono you need is wine-mono, not native mono. If your distro doesn't package it, install it manually. http://wiki.winehq.org/Mono
Delete the wineprefix you've been experimenting on and reinstall to a clean one.
Third party apps (Q4Wine, POL) are not supported here.

Re: dotnet20 failed to install
I asked a similar question a few days ago and here is what I learned:
1. The latest wine-mono is only recognized by the latest wine. If I try to install wine-mono4.5 on wine 1.6.2, wine complains that mono is not installed. The only wine-mono version that works with wine 1.6.2 is wine-mono0.0.8, which is very old.
2. The only way to use wine-mono that works is to use Wine 1.7.x and wine-mono 4.5.x. Other versions/combinations have issues.
3. If you choose to install Microsoft .NET 2.0 instead of Mono, then "winetricks dotnet20" works with both wine 1.6.2 and wine 1.7.x, but not wine 1.4.x.
4. In my experience experimenting with it in the past couple of weeks, I found that .NET programs mostly run better in "winetricks dotnet20" than in wine-mono. However, I prefer to use mono and wait for it to improve than installing the original Microsoft .NET.
So my conclusion is: if you just want it to work and don't care about using Microsoft libraries, then use "winetricks dotnet20", otherwise, use Mono 4.5.x. Either way, you will have to upgrade Wine to 1.7.x to have the best experience with that application.
I would like to thank dimesio for helping me with my questions while I was going through this.

Re: dotnet20 failed to install
I appreciate the feedback, although upgrading wine may not have helped. I'm now running 1.6.2, which doesn't seem like it's entirely working as it should. Unfortunately upgrading it properly would involve having 697 packages removed and 1287 upgraded, which would make my system unstable, so isn't really an option.
I did however tinker with things for a bit and through a series of trial and error got some prefixes loaded with the libraries needed to at least start the install process of AutoCAD 2006. Ultimately it errors out, and doesn't really provide much logging. Can you take a look at these logs and see if anything jumps out at you?

Re: dotnet20 failed to install
If by that you mean that you forced the install despite warnings of broken dependencies, then I would expect problems.dwalbeck wrote: Unfortunately upgrading it properly would involve having 697 packages removed and 1287 upgraded, which would make my system unstable, so isn't really an option.
Post Wine's terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log
Re: dotnet20 failed to install
No, the upgrade of Wine installed without any issues. I enabled the repository with the newer release, then did an 'apt-get update' after which the correct package version was available. I then installed wine and libwine, as well as winetricks. Updating my system using that repository would have caused massive failures due to dependency breakage.
Unfortunately I don't run wine like that from the command line, and when I do it uses the wrong wine install - the output of which is unremarkable.
wine: created the configuration directory '/home/davey/.wine64'
wine: configuration in '/home/davey/.wine64' has been updated.
wine: Bad EXE format for Z:\home\davey\AutoCAD 2006\Setup.exe.
From a fresh prefix install, the log file for the application I'm trying to install gives minimal information.

The log files of 'dd_netfx20MSI6898.txt' and 'dd_netfx20UI6898.txt' both look fine, as well as 'ASPNETSetup_00000.log' and 'Install-log.txt'. The only log with any real information is the 'AcadInstall.log' file used by the application, which at least shows the progress of elements installed, but doesn't include any failure point. With this prefix I include the wine libraries:
mscoree
wintrust
d3dx9_28
crypt32
The installation fails pretty immediate without including mscoree and wintrust, and AutoCAD needs to have direct X installed, so I included that as it fails trying to install it. And from PlayOnLinux the libraries of:
corefonts
dotnet20
SP2_Extract
The only log that is helpful is the playonlinux.log, which I've been scanning through to add troubled libraries. Is there anywhere that references or defines what these libraries are used for and their names? Is there a way to turn on more logging without using the command line? What environment variables does the 'wine' command rely on to use the correct prefix and can I set and point these to another install?

Re: dotnet20 failed to install
I repeat: POL is not supported here. If you insist on using it, ask for help on their forum.
What do you mean by "wrong wine install"? You should not have more than one Wine package installed on your system from a distro package. If you have manually installed other versions, they should be to separate locations, and you would have to specify the full path to use them. The Wine installed from your distro's package should be the one used by default with the wine command, and if it isn't, something is seriously messed up with your system.when I do it uses the wrong wine install
You can name wineprefixes anything you want, but I have to ask, why are you naming it ".wine64" when you said in your original post you were using a 32 bit wineprefix? If this is a 64 bit wineprefix, .NET won't work.wine: created the configuration directory '/home/davey/.wine64'
wine: configuration in '/home/davey/.wine64' has been updated.
wine: Bad EXE format for Z:\home\davey\AutoCAD 2006\Setup.exe.
Re: dotnet20 failed to install
I understand that while you endorse POL, you don't support it, which is why I have tried not mentioning it, but it became directly related to the conditions by which I was trying to provide the feedback requested. POL has the feature of managing and using different Wine version, which I have been trying using 1.6.2 and 1.7.0 and 1.7.32. I does install each separately and uses the paths to the correct install. Using the default Wine installed by the distro did what I posted. After checking the default distro provided wine script, it looks like it does some autodetecting of my platform and creates either wine32 or wine64, the later in my case matching my 64 bit architecture. It auto created that directory, which is not the directory I've been trying installs using POL (.PlayOnLinux/wine), but I believe it is the same Wine install used by Q4Wine, which stores it's prefixes in (.local/share/wineprefixes), but uses the same distro install of Wine.
Either way, using the GUI sets whatever variables are used for paths used by the install. This being the case, calling it from the command line won't produce the same results, and apparently doesn't want to use the already existing install found in the directory .wine created by Wine. This is why I asked what variables are used, so that I can manually override what they are set to by exporting the variable definition. Make sense?
Is there anywhere that has a full listing of what each library does as per it's naming? Wine provides many libraries, and I suppose winetricks supplies more, and then added to that POL provides some more. I've already tried looking for any reference from all three sources and found nothing. Running through error logs to try and match libraries that I'm not familiar with is the same as guessing, which isn't very helpful.

Re: dotnet20 failed to install
BTW, I am using a 32bit install of Windows XP, which should work fine on my system with multilib installed. I've already gotten the error during an install trying a 64bit version of WinXP and it choked. In the past I've had this installed and working using VirtualBox, but it takes a good chunk of resources to use that, and AutoCAD is a pretty heavy application.
Re: dotnet20 failed to install
Actually it looks like I've got all the DLL problems resolved and the prefix image looks perfect through the install process. Using libraries:
advpack
atl
comctl32
crypt32
d3dx9_28
imagehlp
loadpref
mscoree
msi
mstask
ole32
riched32
secur32
setupapi
sfc
shell32
url
userenv
wintrust
wtsapi32
POL_Install_corefonts
POL_Install_dotnet20
POL_Install_flashplayer
The only output from the install log however is completely vague and unhelpful to proceed, which is as follows:
[[12/4/2014 20:53:11] Installation started: AutoCAD 2006

Re: dotnet20 failed to install
I don't know where you got that idea. I've never even used it.you endorse POL
Logs from POL scripts are useless. We need to see Wine's console output.
Follow these instructions for using a wineprefix and creating a 32 bit one using plain Wine: http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#wineprefix.
