Ubuntu 14.10 Red Alert 3 Installing

Post by Meshsync »

Code: Select all

~$ wine --version
wine-1.7.30
The disk is definitely in the machine yet half way through the install, after serial number, tos checks and what not, I get

Image

What gives? O.o

This didn't happen previously.

This is a fresh ubuntu installation.

This is the content I get when I try to install via terminal

Code: Select all

$ wine Autorun

I tried this tip but under wine it appears in the D: slot as it should do, even still I mounted it under F: just for lulz, then navigated through the .wine directory to install it. No joy.

I thought you said in your other thread that you got it running in Ubuntu?

Try running the installer directly instead of autorun.exe.

I had, but then I had to reinstall and now boom >.>;; (I also now have Flash problems...)

The only other .exe that I can find (except for the DL manager in the Support folder) is the EASetup.exe and I get the same result in the same place.

Assuming you mean native Flash, that sounds like you have problems in your host system. You need to straighten that out first, as problems with your OS could definitely affect Wine.

While that might be the case, I doubt it to the extremes. It was a flashplugin issue with Firefox still not entirely sure about it but the only problem was with freezing. That has no bearing on wine checking if a CD exists.

I have completely wiped my hdd and reinstalled fresh.

Wine 1.7, install RA3, Wine cannot see the CD...doesn't even let me retry. Doesn't even think about installing SecuRom...

Can Wine see other mounted cds (check the drives tab in winecfg)? If yes, does the mounted RA3 cd show up in winecfg?

What version of SecuRom does RA3 use? SecurRom 4.x should work in Wine, 5.x and up don't.

In my drives tab I have the following information:
C: ../drive_c
D: /media/user/RA3
E: /media/user/USB
Z: /
That all looks normal, which is why I'm surprised that it asks me to insert the disk.

I have no idea. What I do know, is that it worked before so therefore I can only assume it's version 4.x or such like. Unfortunately I cannot find any information that tells me what version SecuRom is on the disc.

Okay...

Work around acquired...

Copy the entire disc to hdd. No, not to iso, to hdd. Now, run the set up as normal, hence no disc required :3. Instead use the disk to launch the game afterwards if completely necessary. >.>

I'm not sure what the problem is.

Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 is also part of the DeAuthorize mechanism that EA games have. I'm not sure how much effect that has, but it might be useful.
