Can I install a printer using wine?
Can I install a printer using wine?
I'm a new Linux Mint user, and saw wine in Software Manager. Can I use wine to install a Canon printer. The software is written for Windows. The info on wine says for windows applications. Does this mean just software in the operating system like XP which is what I have. This is very new stuff for me, so here I am.
Re: Can I install a printer using wine?
No. Windows hardware drivers don't work in Wine. You need to install the Linux CUPS driver for your printer, if there is one.

Thanks, have been wondering about Cups. How do I find out if there is one?

Thanks, how do I find out if there is a CUPS driver for the MP130.
Re: Can I install a printer using wine?
Ask on the Mint forum. That's not a Wine question.

Re: Can I install a printer using wine?
I have had zero luck getting Canon printers to work. Was a shame because one of them was a freebie colour laser that worked great on XP. They seem so use some proprietary comms protocol. Ended up going out and buying a Brother Printer. No more problems.
Re: Canon Printers
Forget Canon printers. Hp is the route. Drivers for nearly every one of them made since the world began. I got close with Canon. The recommended one ip1500 doesnt work. Got close with a CUPS search landing me with the closest (MP140). No luck
Bought an HP, and what a different world that was.
