Hi I'm new to Wine and I'm having problems when trying to run windows based games on Linux.
I can get the games installed and launch them (well sometimes last game I installed launched ok but after a reboot it now asks me to insert the correct CD) unfortunately that's as far as I can go due to it constantly cycling through menu options, if I manage to catch the right part in the menu and load the current game once I get in the character continuously spins around making it unplayable
Currently running version 1.6
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
To be fair, You don't give us a lot of info to work with. Maybe try to make a .log file of everything that's going on. There could be a lot of things going wrong. Disc games typically aren't very friendly on WINE, Because of the copy prevention. What games were you playing and trying to install and did you check the AppDB?
Sorry mate I have no idea how to make a .log file at this time, I've only ever used Windoze before so never ran into these problems in the past and have only been running Linux for about two month.
Last game I tried was Resident Evil 4, others have been Battlefield Vietnam, Splinter Cell Double Agent and Assassins Creed, none of which are new games.
I've checked the AppDB and only BF Nam is in there but from what I've read elsewhere all these games are meant to run fine in Wine though I've had problems with all of them.
The only games I've managed to run without problems are games that have been configured from the Dev end I.E Steam based games and EVE online.
Installing and launching isn't the problem it's after I launch the problems start, it's as though I'm holding down a button making it cycle through the menu options and causing the characters to spin in game.
I will look into how to make the .log file, though any pointers would be good as well.
And thanks for trying to help me out bud
