Differences between wine on Linux vs OS X

If I try to install the Creative Suite on Linux Mint with wine version 1.7.16, the installer correctly runs and prompts me for a serial number. If I try to run the same installer using the exact same wine version on OS X, the installer runs but gives me an "installer failed" error. There must be some difference that I'm not aware of

I'm not using any DLL overrides in either wine and both are the exact same versions.

Turns out I had to copy the installation files from the DVD to a local folder then run the installer
