Windows program not responsive with wine install on Mac 10.9

I just got a new macbook pro with OS X 10.9.4. I installed wine and the Windows software I've been running, which is for data processing, will open, but becomes non responsive. I haven't had an issue until I got the new laptop. Does anyone know what would cause the application to launch, but then stop functioning?
