For some obscure reason IE8 no longer works.
I can get it to come up from the command line, but it does not access the Web.
Trying to change any settings causes it to crash.
The whole thing is quite puzzling as I am sure it worked before,
I noted that both IE7 and IE8 are listed as installed under Winetricks.
I have tried a force install of IE7 and IE8, without any luck.
Any help would be appreciated.
IE8 no longer works
Re: IE8 no longer works
Try reinstalling to a clean wineprefix. Make sure you have the latest development version of Wine and the latest winetricks.
Beyond that, running real IE under Wine is not supported due to the large number of native dlls needed, and even with them, it has always been very buggy.

Re: IE8 no longer works
Thanks for that, as it stands both IE7 and IE8 are installed under Winetricks.
I am not sure how that happened, but I presume that is not helpful.
So how do I clean all this mess and perhaps be a little less ambitious and reinstall IE7.
I am rather green at all this, so so command line examples and/or instructions on whatever else is required would be greatly appreciated.

Re: IE8 no longer works
Delete the messed up wineprefix and start over with a fresh one, preferably one that's separate from your other apps. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#wineprefix
Re: IE8 no longer works
Hello dimesio, I gave the approach set out in the link several tries, without luck.
I then tried the same through Q4wine and that succeeded.
Using the new wine prefix I then installed IE8 and this installed without a hiccup and works fine.
I now have two wine prefixes, "default" and "paul", with the latter being the one just created.
Do I need to delete the "default" prefix and if I do so, will it affect programs that were installed under this prefix, or is it better to leave it as is?
It seems to work fine as it stands.
Thanks, Paul.
