Steam games fail to launch with Unhandled exception c0000005

Hi,
Some games fail to launch on steam for me with the following error
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005
(when I try to launch the game nothing happens; just this message in the terminal)

I found that it can be "fixed" with the usual Windows tactics -- restart.
If you run Steam and restart it from within the Steam
(menu Steam->Go Offline; then Steam->Go Online)
the games work without problems.

In my case this problem affected 3 out of 5 games which I tried to launch.
- Witcher (now launches without problems)
- Star Wars: KOTOR (now launches without problems, it seems in AppDB its ranked Garbage because of this problem)
- Bastion (still fails to launch, because of some other problem)

I'm running Slackware, wine 1.7.16 and 1.7.14, not a clean prefix, but I kind of lost track of what I installed. Anyway, just want to share the experience, in case anyone happens to have this problem.

For what it's worth, I'm getting this one, too, since the 4/22 update. It's a bit better with the 4/23 update, but it still takes 2-3 tries to get a game to launch with the Steam client. I can run games independently of steam (such as AI War and Skyward Collapse), so it isn't the game.

Hey, try the latest version of WINE (1.7.18.) It's much, much better for me, although sometimes games still won't start on the first click of play. But they start more than they don't.

Did you try wine-1.7.19? I change wine to 1.7.19, and all steam game won't launch no matter what times I launch it.

by the way I noticed steam client had change its rating to Bronze, is it related to this problem?

Ok, got a solution. I solve this by re-update steam client.

and do what it said:

Delete all files in your Steam folder (default is typically: ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/) except the file steam.exe and the folder steamapps.
Re-launch your Steam client - in order to re-download all application files.
Your Steam games will be intact - since all these games are stored in subfolders of the steamapps folder.
