Application that opens and closes?

Hi. I have been using Wine for some basic Windows apps I find more convenient. But recently, I have been installing some games that can't open. The application window opens and closes promptly instantly. Using Unity(maybe its the reason?), the transparent window silhouette appears then disappears in a flash. I have no idea why or how to fix this but has anyone encountered this situation?

Wine version? If it's not the latest development release, upgrade. If it still doesn't work, post terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

I executed the link on my desktop. the only reply was

wine: Bad EXE format for Z:\home\sysadmin\Desktop\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl.Desktop.

Run the actual executable, not the .desktop file.
