Sketchup on Wine

Post by RayArdia »

OS Ubuntu 14.04, on Wine 1.7 Sketchup 8.
Having tried just about every permutation of Ubuntu 13.04,13.10 and 14.04 with various versions of Wine I decided to try not just the current, or the last-but-one ver of Sketchup, but to go right back to ver 8.
Result was thet it tried to run, got to 'start using Sketchup then this screen:-
'Sketchup was unable to initialize Open GL!
Please make sure that you have installed the correct drivers for your graphics card.

Error choose Pixel Format failed.

As I've not come across this one before - what does it mean?

If anyone has successfully run Sketchup on Ubuntu using Wine (or by any other means, even VOODOO would be considered), would they please be so kind as to let me know (no jargon please) just HOW?

There's a workaround in the bug report.

Thanks, I found it eventually after a couple of false starts. I changed the HW_OK" = 1 in key
> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp8\GLConfig\Display

This enabled SU to reach it's main (drawing) screen but I then got yet another Bugsplat inviting me to send an error report. Whenever this occurs I'm led to a blank screen at https://report.bugsplatsoftware.com/post/post form.php

Further reporting seems impossible, though the report details are in C:\users\ray\Temp\SU8WinCrash_051814_100810.zip
Would add contents but a) I don't know how and, b) this probably isn't the right place?
Help please?

The log captured by Sketchup is no use here; we need Wine terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log
