Crashing on online serverloading since engine version 1.7.13

Post by Scuda »

Hello,
I use wineskin wrapper and wine engines for the game Neverwinter Nights 2. It has been running great since 1.5.8 wine engine.

Since the engine 1.7.13, however, whenever the game begins to load onto the online persistent world, it crashes, that is, wineskin crashes.

I was told by wineskin developer that I might have to do or request a "regression test" to determine what changed from 1.712 to .13 and higher. This crashing problem persists with all new wine engines.

Any advice?

Wineskin is not supported here; this forum is for plain Wine only.

If the problem exists in plain Wine, yes, you should do a regression test and file a bug. http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

Completely understand about Wineskin. But the developer of that program stated any engine changes used in his "skin" should be addressed here.

I will follow up on the link. Thank you.

I stated, the engines your using are built stock... I have the game also, and the regressions seem to be Wine related, since i just switch back to an earlier version and they work. It would take time for someone to do a regression test... which takes a lot of compiling and testing, over and over and over again to finally find the exact commit that started causing the problem. Technically you can regression test with Wineskin... since Winery will compile for you. You'd have to to the git checkout, and bisects, then just point winery to that code to build an engine off of, test, rinse and repeat... or just do it all manually command line.

Someone filed a bug for Neverwinter Nights 2 crashing on start, but according to the bug report the problem first appeared in 1.7.16. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35957
