I'm using MINT/Cinnamon distro and have installed MINT with the Software Manager. One Windows program I would like to migrate is Global Mapper GIS software. Invoked the setup EXE with WINE, installation started but locked up the system when the installer noted it was installing "Microsoft Data Access Components." When I rebooted the computer, the program loaded, loaded the selected vector file, but that was it. Nothing else was functional. Toolbar buttons were grayed out and nothing selectable in the application window. My experience with MINt is less than one week old so my knowledge base is really slim. My best guess would be this program needs some Microsoft libraries and other distributions I don't have. I opted for a single OS installation of MINT so my former XP system doesn't exist in a partition.

You can install mdac27 or mdac28 with winetricks. http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks
