Right now I'm trying to get wine to either run a virtual desktop at, or let me run a game at 5760x1080 across 3 monitors. I'm running wine 1.7.13, with an nvidia proprietary driven gtx 770, in XFCE. Its not just Wine, I cant seem to get anything to let me do this. At the suggestion of someone else who I saw was having success, I tried an old ID software game I had kicking around. By default it just blacked out 2 monitors, but custom command line and 10 seconds later I had fullscreen triples..
All that proved to me is that XFCE was not at fault, so that left me even more confused really. Right now wine set at 5760x1080 will only go into 1 monitor. My right monitor specifically, I dont know why it enjoys that monitor, since its not set as the 'primary display'. The fullscreen wine can't be moved with xdotool any way I can figure out either, because I attempted to use that to modify its size that way. Now if I set 5759x1079, then whammo I have a huge window, starting at the center screen.
I dont know whats happened over the years with all these drivers and extensions but it sure is a mess. Googleing this problem leads to nothing but people who have the exact opposite problem, and want their wine to stop using multiple monitors. I on the other hand can't for my life force it to. And yet the only program I've got to successfully do this now, was written in 2003, so I know the capability is here.
WINE + triple monitor + fullscreen
Re: WINE + triple monitor + fullscreen
@dr1,
I am a single monitor gaming (only) kinda guy. Having looked at the ArchWiki NVIDIA I think I will stay that way!!
I believe this is more of a X11/graphics driver problem than something that can be solved in Wine.

Re: WINE + triple monitor + fullscreen
I am too, except for a couple things.. flight sims, and now iRacing.. triple screen is pretty much a standard. It even has its own options for 3 screen rendering. Aside from never having to fuss with moving the window around to the right location, I mainly want this working to enable VSync in game.
I've heard of TwinView with 3 monitors, in some searches, however I dont think it even exists in the driver anymore. At least thats what it was telling me when I was trying to enable it. However I dont know that would answer anything, ive confirmed triple fullscreen possible now.
I'd like to believe a driver was just lacking, however being able to fire up an 11 year old game and get it to fullscreen triple without issue is rather disturbing, being that I cant get anything else too thats actually up to date. ID software still owning everyone this many years later, lol. I have to get some more native linux games to try and see what happens with them, I've read SDL games should be able to handle this OK.
Only new thing I discovered after many hours last night, is that if I Alt+space my new 5760x1080 wine virtual desktop, I can tell XFCE to UnFullscreen and it is in fact a 5760x1080 window at that point. But whos in charge of blocking me from spanning the 3 screens with it I still dont know, might need to install another WM and play around. I could not get any video players to do this either (mplayer, vlc). None of the native linux games I have installed atm see 5760x1080 as an option, so like with my test with enemy-territory its a matter of force.
UPDATE: Took my own advice, poked around my games and had NeverWinter nights installed, which uses SDL. It saw 5760x1080 in its list of resolution options, made a window out of it. Went out of the game and edited nwn.ini to turn on fullscreen, and whammo fullscreen triples. Somethings wrong here and its not my window manager.

Re: WINE + triple monitor + fullscreen
So anyone have any ideas here? Anyone ever have to force WINE to stop using more than one screen?
So far SDL is the only thing I can see thats aware of whats going on. mplayer can span across with sdl output option, it also turns off monitors that arent being used, which is completely annoying because it ends up causing a reshuffling of my desktop windows into 1 screen.
Are there any hidden WINE settings somewhere that deal with multi monitor?

Re: WINE + triple monitor + fullscreen
No. There are some longstanding bugs for various multi-monitor issues:dr1 wrote: Are there any hidden WINE settings somewhere that deal with multi monitor?
