how to debug graphics issue? (Wine/Steam/Settlers IV)

Post by carnica99 »

Hi,

I'm successfully running Civilization IV via Steam and Wine. Now I tried out The Settlers VI Rise of an Empire via Steam as well but no success: Instead of graphics there's just a big white box (and a mouse cursor), the sound plays, a mouse cursor shows, but nothing else works. Apparently that's some graphics driver or graphics card issue, but how can I debug this? (I'm not even sure I'm on the right forum here, am I? After all, Wine and Steam run just fine...)

Thank you very much & Cheers!

I am afraid there is not much good info on this game in the Database. That is the first place to look for tips when debugging. Next people here will need to know your build info; CPU, Graphics, Memory and WINE version. Capture your debug back trace info to a file. Read here. Those reports might not make sense to you but some here can read them.

I hope that helps you out.

Turns out I was just missing DirectX. I downloaded the "redistributable" DirectX from Microsoft and installed that in wine. That would give me the video and all. The game runs, though the graphics has lots of glitches.

Thanks S'o'A!
