wineserver

Hi;
yesterday i installed wine 1.7 from the fedora repo, then i installed DesignSpark 5.1.; the application works fine when my computer is connected to the internet, but when it's not connected wineserver process uses ~30% of CPU and the application sometimes launches after about 2 min or doesn't launch at all.
Is there a solution for this problem ?

note: i also installed matlab2009a and it works without a problem even if my computer isn't connected to the internet.

It sounds like the app tries to do something over the internet on startup, possibly checking for updates. That's something you would have to disable in the app itself.

thanks for the reply;
but i already set it up to not search for updates. on windows (xp and 7) it works fine without the computer connected to the internet.

The most common reason for a slow startup is bug 10358, but I think that would affect all apps, and you said it doesn't.

Post terminal output from when it's connected and when it's not connected.

as you can see i had to terminate it because it takes too much time and i noticed that each

fixme:mountmgr:harddisk_ioctl Unsupported ioctl 74080 (device=7 access=1 func=20 method=0)

takes exactly 65 seconds. any idea what that line means ?

It has something to do with accessing your hard disk, but I really don't know much about it. That line does show up in a lot of terminal output, but AFAICT it's considered harmless.

You could file a bug for the delayed startup when not connected to the internet.
