Ys Origin Demo - Crashing after main Menu

Hello,

I am having some difficulty running the YS Origin Demo that i got from Steam. The game will run, and the main menu displays fine(the music plays as well). However, when I try to start a new game, or change the options, the game slows to a crawl for several seconds befor crashing. After it crashes, the following error message is displayed:
"D3DERR_NOTFOUND(88760866h)
->Failed to get Z Buffer.
renderer.cpp(397)"

I have native quartz and disabled winegstreamer, like the AppDB suggested, but this problem persists. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: My comp is a Dell L502x with Kubuntu 13.10.

Update: After creating a new 32-bit wineprefix and updating to Wine 1.7.10, the game runs flawlessly.
