Activating Software

Post by plane sailing »

I have a dual boot Ubuntu 13.10 and Win 8. There is a software program designed for Windows which I was able to get running under Wine with my previous laptop running Ubuntu 12.04 & Win 7 - it's a very specific piece of software so unsurprisingly it wasn't found when I searched Wine.

I've bought and paid for this software and it's been activated ok in Win 8 but I'd really like to use it in Ubuntu as I managed to do before. It installs ok using Wine but when presented with the screen to activate the software before first use, the Device ID window shows only 000000 and is greyed out. I understand that the activation process uses the Device ID to generate a program key for activation and I have both of these from the Win 8 activation. If I can enter the same Device ID as the Win 8 installation then I can use the same program key and the software will then work perfectly well under Wine. This is what I did when using it on my last laptop.

If I remember correctly I have to change settings under regedit and the Device ID had to be converted from a decimal value to a hex value, but for the life of me I can't find where in the registry I make these changes. Under the program name in the registry I can enter the program key but there's nothing which mentions Device ID.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Like I mentioned, this program does work and I've used it quite successfully but I need to find a way of entering the Device ID (which I already have).
