Catalyst 13.11 beta 9.4 - LeageOfLegends -AMD R9 290

Post by PoTski »

Hey!
Catalyst 13.11 beta 9.4 broke leage of legends. Any one found a workaround for this issue?
Cant revert to older driver cause of the R9 290.

Installed LoL with play on linux. It freezes after champoin select with the Leage of legends logo, right before its suposed to load. Uses one CPU core 100% It worked fine before i upgraded from the 13.04 driver to this one. I also changed my graphics card from a 7970 to the R9 290 one.

attatched is the WINEDEBUG=+wgl log

Does some one know of anything i can do to get the driver working?

err:winediag:wined3d_dll_init The GLSL shader backend has been disabled. You get to keep all the pieces if it breaks.

PoTski we don't support playonlinux installs normally has too many options tweaked. The error message about GLSL disabled might explain the breakage.

Pol debug:
[12/11/13 17:36:09] - Running wine-1.7.1 lol.launcher.admin.exe (Working directory : /root/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/LeagueOfLegends/drive_c/Riot Games/League of Legends)
PlayOnLinux is not supported here. This forum is for plain Wine only.
err:winediag:wined3d_dll_init The GLSL shader backend has been disabled. You get to keep all the pieces if it breaks.
That message seems self-explanatory.

The AppDB entry for LoL has a very detailed howto, and an active maintainer. My suggestion is that you reinstall using plain Wine following those instructions, and if you have problems, ask for help on the AppDB page. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=19141

Yes. Both you guys flame the pol script. (seems like the default enterprise american way too do stuff.) :) hehe

Ofc. followed the app DB way aswell and compiled from source. That dont matter much. Funny that you blame the GLSL disabled. Dont look like you got experiance with the feature. The feature could be enabled or disabled. dont matter.

Il take part of the blame for my "noobish" post. The AMD catalyst 13.11 beta 9.4 is the issue. But whats the differents in driver builds ? and have some of you guys made it work with leage of legends, and ofc. what did you guys do to accomplish this.

Answer the question (if you know the answer).
Found a openGL bug in the driver. it might be related.
OpenGL and glGenerateTextureMipmapEXT
The value returened is allways NULL.

could a dev please give me an answear.

PoTski we need the log with GLSL enabled. This is in fact causes wine to take a completely different code path internally. Sometime better clues. Yes the message if you are running with GLSL disabled "You get to keep all the pieces if it breaks." note is basically we don't support that in most cases.

PoTski we have experience with solving into problems. We need the in face problems fixed before we can be sure what we are seeing.

Code: Select all

err:winediag:wined3d_dll_init The GLSL shader backend has been disabled. You get to keep all the pieces if it breaks.
Note that this line also appears 3 times in the log. This say the program has attempted to startup direct3d environment 3 times. Most games only do this once. So for some reason game is going down bad code path. Is this wine or is this drivers or is this some third party library.

PoTski PlayonLinux do have their own forums. With people who understand PlayonLinux tweaking. We don't have the knowledge to provide the technical support for PlayonLinux. Also we find a lot of programs that don't work with PlayonLinux default scripts. If you read the PlayonLinux forums you will find a lot of instructions to alter the PlayonLinux scripts so stuff works.

Basically its not a flame. We know our limitations. Us attempting to support PlayonLinux without the knowledge todo so is wasting our time and yours. We understand the appdb stuff.

PoTski by the way I am not going to attempt to blame the drivers if there is any chance a setting is wrong causing program to go strange code path. This is why I said the last time it might be GLSL off. I need log with GLSL and installs as per adddb on before I can make an attempt at identify problem.

Yes the beta drivers could be broken this would not even be strange.

Please don't mistake us taking path of responsible diagnostics as that we don't have a thought what the problem might be. We will not state some thoughts until we are very sure. One of those thoughts we are careful to avoid saying defective driver(you already have this feeling. We are not 100 percent sure yet). We don't want driver developers wasting time if it turns out to be a wine issue internally.

Yes we need the log with appdb installed version with GLSL enabled to make a correct judgement call.

Sorry we can only do so much if we are not given the information we need.

Thank you for your reply oiaohm!

I have been posting issues all over WWW and gotten zero responds. So kudos +1 for responding.
Ill give you some backstory. Ok. Im a newbie linux guy. But skilled otherwise and work only in the enterprise market. Made the switch to linux cause i feel i need to learn. So had to switch cold turkey. no dual boot for me. :)

I think i found the issue tho. But since i suck GNU\Linux i would love some help. You guy would prolly fix it in a second.

Ok, so heres the "new" issue.

I tried to recompile Wine from source and configure failed :)
Turns out i have compiled the wine source with the 13.04 dirver while debugging the new 13.11 driver. (god damit!)

configure: WARNING: No OpenGL library found on this system

So theres 2 things on my mind right now, the incompatible log entry and the No opengl error log entry.
The OpenGL one could explain everything. Cause when i install the AMD 13.11 beta 9.4 driver and try to start amdccle or the Catalyst control center it failes with libgl.so.1 not found(known...). clearly an amd mistake. so i copy or symlink the libgl.so.1 from the /usr/lib64/ to /usr/lib/ and that works fine. So there might be some missing symlinks. Il drop the log as attachment and heres my symlinks.

ldd /usr/bin/glxgears

libXdmcp.so.6 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXdmcp.so.6 (0x00007f6eda47d000)

Let me know if this makes any sense to you. Btw. pls dont "wine" about me running as root. (see what i did there?) :D

PoTski wine by design is normal video card neutral so driver changes should not effect wine at all.

http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit is building instructions of build on a 64 bit system.

But you really do need to take to the distribution support people about installing AMD drivers. What to tweak and what todo there does vary a little distribution to distribution. The fact you had to add a link in it self is a worry that there is a lot more wrong.

PoTski we support what we can safely. You will find a lot of the support channels in the Linux world are like us but nastier. Nastier being ask a invalid question they just don't answer or redirect you.

when building DKMS for the driver 13.12 i got this error
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 3.11.0-14-generic (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/fglrx/13.251/build/make.log for more information.

Then i modifyed this file /usr/src/fglrx-13.251/kcl_acpi.c
and changed the last line from:
((acpi_table_handler)handler)(hdr);

to:
#if LINUX_VERSION_CODE >= KERNEL_VERSION(3,9,1)
((acpi_tbl_table_handler)handler)(hdr);
#else
((acpi_table_handler)handler)(hdr);
#endif

I understand you feel the dists are different, and i agree, but its still debian. :)
It sould work as expected.

When i install the 13.04 driver everything works fine. So the issue must be the driver. And i have come so far at to belive theres something the 13.04 driver dont remove when installing the new drivers. Like a symlink.
So. i think this thread can be closed. its not solved. but closed.
No one anywhere i post seems to want to help and i have lost faith in humanity. My issues started on friday the 13. so theres nothing left to do. My faith is sealed.

I surrender!

PoTski you should have stated debian sooner. I can answer why you are not getting answers.

You have installed the raw AMD run file right. Don't do this with debian. You are meant to package it to a .deb file before installing. This prevents a huge stack of random stuff ups and at least makes it cleanly removable.

With Nvidia when I need to downgrade driver version(yes I had too old of card) I had to perform a apt-get purge on the old version to fully remove it before the new version would work.

PoTski remember what I said about being nasty. Debian world its either package or not supported by them. So you were asking for support on something they don't support.

So that fix up patch are most likely in debian package sources for the closed source fglrx drivers.

PoTski every distribution has a personality if you don't know it they can treat you very rudely. Debian is not intended to be a source or a hacked up distributions. Yes they are the formal shirt and tie type and a bit of a snob to those who are not. But that formal shirt and tie type is why Debian has its habit of being stable it totally discourages doing particular things.

Yes PoTski you choose to be a casual dresser in a room full of formal shirts and ties.
