I am trying to find out if anyone has had experience with any installations of any alarm panel programing software through wine. I am an alarm tech, and I am looking to try to install several different softwares onto a Linux laptop or desktop for remote upload/download of fire panels. My distro of choice is Debian, but I have experience with many others. What I do not have is much experience with Wine. One of the programs that I am looking to use is called PK-Tools, and is a Fire-lite by Honeywell software. I have used this software for years through Windows, but I am looking to try it through Linux. It must transmit through a USB to serial adapter, we call a dongle. We have a couple different dongles according to the panel or software we are using. One software we use uses a dongle to a modem then to the panel.
Basically what I am looking for is any advice and pointers on setting up wine with this possible configuration. I know it might be a shot in the dark, but if anyone can help I would appreciate it. And I am sure there will need to be much more answered on my part before anything can be answered, so ask away!
I am only able to get on line once or twice a day so bare with me, please, on answering questions.

Re: Alarm panel installation software
Wine's support for USB devices is poor. If it's pure serial over USB, you might be able to make it work; however, if it requires Windows drivers, it will not work in Wine.

Re: Alarm panel installation software
I believe most of them are pure serial over USB. One dongle is in fact proprietary to the software.
