My son uses Steam/Valve gaming. On a recent install of Kubuntu 12.04 64 bit and Wine, we tried out the Linux Steam Client and PlayOnLinux as well, with a considerable degree of success, but running the Wine Steam access and linking to his existing library on his Windows partition proved to be an eye-opener (and with an NVidia graphics card) ... at least until he decided to delete something on Wine and forgot to unlink the Windows library first ... it took a week to re-download all the games files that were very efficiently removed.
I am impressed by Wine's abilities ... my son's comments were printable but restrained.
Be careful where you link ... as wine becomes more and more competent, forgetting where you are and what you are doing can have interesting consequences!
