Help for bug report

Post by David400 »

I don't know how to perform regression testing. I use Ubuntu and Wine 1.6. The instructions for regression testing are too technical for me to understand. I've also been asked to try Wine on a different sound system to PulseAudio, but I know that you cannot remove or change PulseAudio from Ubuntu without breaking apps like Skype.

Here's the bug report: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32074

The Windows app in that bug report almost works flawlessly in Wine.

The problem with your report isn't PulseAudio per se, it's the unsupported winepulse patch that the Ubuntu packages contain, along with other unsupported changes to dsound. Those used to only be in the development packages, but apparently Ubuntu is now including them in their stable packages as well, so there's no easy way for you to test it.

I downloaded the app, so I can confirm it is an issue in plain Wine. What was the last working version?

I did a quick test in 1.4, because I already had that built, and the problem is present there, too, so it is much older than you originally reported.

Ubuntu archives old packages at http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/binary/. If this really is a regression you should be able to find the last working version by testing old packages.

I tried installing the older releases of Wine, but none worked - error "dependency is not satisfiable".

As an end-user of Wine, I don't know about more 'advanced' things like regression tests.
