Any hope or workarounds for FirstClass?

Post by jorgenqv »

Hello everybody in the Wine Community!

I am a sub admin at a bigger FirstClass Server with around 30.000 users and I and a few hundred others like me prefer to use a free Linux based OS. But back in September 2010 the developer Open Text Corp dropped the Linux based client. Thanks to Wine and the excellent work of the community it's been possible to use the Windows client and for every version things are getting better end better.

But since 2011 there is only a few irritating flaws that is almost a show stopper. This forced us Linux users to use a old version of the Windows client, sure to be outdated one day. And since a couple of weeks ago there is a new version 12 of the FirstClass Client. And I would really like to use it.

I did some bug reports a couple of years ago, did a update a few days ago, and the behavior and problem is still exactly the same with FCC 12.005 in Wine 1.6. I am sure you in the community have more important issues to solve, but did I do something wrong? Any hints and workarounds would be enormously appreciated! I have tried so many this now and then over the years, with no success what so ever.

Bug 29310: When starting the client the splash screen freezes, disappears if you click on it. There should be a login screen, perhaps related to 29311? The workaround is to right click on the FCC icon in the panel tray and Connect.

Bug 29311: If you right click on the FCC icon in the panel tray and choose Connect the settings file is not found. If you have a fresh install a settings file should be created automatically but is not. So you have to have a file (home.fc) located in the user home directory ~/FirstClass/Settings/ and the workaround is to manually choose the settings file every time you want to connect.

Bug 29112: If you hit enter to log in (very common) the client freezes. The workaround is to click on the login button instead.

I and many others would be very very happy if someone with more Wine knowledge than me could take a peek at this!
