Prolific USB driver not installing correctly with Mint 15

Hello everyone and thank you for any help you can offer.

I am running Memory Map software under WINE and trying to install the USB driver software to connect a Garmin Etrex. The Prolific software does not seem to install correctly and the device is unable to communicate with Memory Map.

This used to work perfectly under earlier versions of Mint, but since upgrading to Mint 15 I cannot seem to get the device to communicate via the USB port.

Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

I am no expert with Linux !

Did you symlink the device to a com port?
