No sound in AIM 5.9

Post by raccoonone »

I installed AIM 5.9 via Wine in Ubuntu 8.04, however I'm not hearing any sound. I configured Wine to use the ALSA driver and I tested another application under Wine and the sound worked fine. Does anyone know how I might go about getting the sounds in AIM to work?

Remove pulse-audio. Report problem to your distro support.

I just opened up Synaptic to remove PulseAudio, but it says that I'll have to uninstall VLC, Amarok, ubuntu-desktop...a whole bunch of stuff. Is there a way that I could disable PulseAudio instead of completely removing it? I'd like to keep my media players like Amarok if possible.

I tried using pasuspender, and that didn't help. Then I tried removing pulse-audio completely, but still no luck. The "test sound" button in the winecfg Audio panel works just fine, but I still have no sound in AIM. Any suggestions?

Use native Linux programs for example Pidgin.

Try switching between alsa/oss in winecfg, and if it still doesn't
work, file a bug.

Pidgin is an excellent native program, as a workaround...

ya, Pidgin works great. But it doesn't support AIM Expressions, which is why I want to get AIM working. I filed a bug report: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14124
