wine 1.41. and ispq9.msi

Have re-read bugs 24211 and 23935 re: installing and running ispqvideochat from NanoCorp. The old bugs referred to wine 1.3 and Ubuntu 10.x. It seems to me that with wine 1.4.1 and Ubuntu 13.04 or LMDE 14 the hope of getting things to work out haven't changed and it isn't going to work. Bug 24211 did seem encouraging as I re-read it. Wonder if I still need WMP9 installed from winetricks prior to trying the msiexec /i ispq9.msi. So my question is: have things changed so that there is hope this program will install and run. I have a clean wineprefix on both Ubuntu 13.04 and LMDE 14. Will try it if you gurus think there is hope. Thanks.

Testing in 1.4.1 is useless. Please test in 1.6-rc3. As to whether you still need to install wmp9, try it without, and if it doesn't work, install it and see if that helps.

OK. Is it better to install as regular user from terminal or with "add application" box?

Install it from the terminal. That way if it doesn't work, you already have the terminal output to post.

unable to find wine 1.6-rc3 in Ubuntu 13.04 From termial did this:

sudo add-apt repository ppa:ubuntu-wine /ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine 1.6-rc3

can't find wine on Ubuntu. Guess I need help/ Thanks.

Scott Ritchie has the 1.6-rc4 build for Ubuntu on repos. so you might be asking for the wrong build is all.

I can use wine 1.4 or 1.5.3 and 1.6-rc4 but what I don't get from what I typed in is why there was no download at all. Can someone help me install from terminal, regardless of which version I use. Reading about ispq9, it seems obvious that there will be probs with it so installing from terminal will help find some of the errors I guess. Thanks.

Probably because you were trying to install 1.6-rc3 when 1.6-rc4 had already replaced it.

I am not trying to make life hard but this is the old "pass the buck" in my opinion.

This becomes a related issue since;
a) the WineHQ homepage instructs you on downloading wine from the distro.
b) the moderators here always insist that users have the latest version for debugging.
c) the latest version is not always available to the user and most of users want to understand how this stuff works.

I think I know what your issue is now Bob. You are using Ubuntu 13.04 and there is no available wine 1.6 for the Raring version. If you go to that Lauchpad link I gave you above you will note that is has only developed to Precise 12.04 you could try an alternate source: http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/wine/source/ ... c4.tar.bz2 and then try to compile it to your OS.

Of course, people are tell me I should use the "official channels" for distros and I would if they exist.

Thanks for the remarks, esp the one where you indicate that wine 1.6 is not available for Ubuntu 13.04 Trying the alternate source won't work for me since I have no idea on how to compile. Would it help to just simply wait until wine 1.6 is available for Ubuntu 13.04 or try LMDE 14 which I also have. Time is not a problem for me. Thanks.
