Cannot play The Treasures of Montezuma

On Wine 1.4 there were no problems. But when upgrading to 1.5.31 I'm no longer able to play this game. When trying to run the game I get a message: "error: unable to create direct3d object".

And console output shows:

I know new builds normally fix some stuff AND breaks other, but do you think there's a fix for this?
