Yet another stuttering sound problem!
Yet another stuttering sound problem!
So, what the tin says. Finally got Fallout Tactics working (apparently finally getting the 1.27 patch to..er..patch fixed the black screen problem I was having...) but...
Stuttering sound. Seriously, its wacky. If I wasn't bald I'd probably tear my hair out after a few minutes of exposer to this. Pharoah/Cleopatra was doing the same thing, but I wasn't craving a fix of that at the time.
What it is like...the sound doubles up and stut-stut-stutters in about...half second intervals. My winecfg thinger says I'm using wineals.drv and I've tried defaults on default (stutters), Intel ICH6-Intel ICH6-IEC958 (stutters, video stutters worse), and Intel ICH6-Intel ICH6 (same as the other).
Highly annoying. Someone tell me what information they need from me to help me go about fixing this so I can play this damn bloody game finally after getting it working (Hey, the fixing would probably work for Pharoah too!).
Running whatever the package manager program gives you version of Wine (1.41 apparently) and whatever lubuntu version this is...(12.10 apparently according to shutdown menu).
Someone with more nerd-fu them me tell me what to do...because I'm running out of beer...

Re: Yet another stuttering sound problem!
The Ubuntu wine1.5 packages are built with the unofficial winepulse driver. Try that. https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa
Re: Yet another stuttering sound problem!
I actually did last night...I recall it still stuttering, except it also had some other problems like black screen's and seriously warped ass graphic stuff going on. 2 different things I tried with it, Starfleet Command, which has no sound problem, but in 1.5 ends up with the screen being offset to the bottom right with black on the top and left side for about...1/4 of the screen. And Fallout Tactics, which still had stutters, but also had black screen for everything, intro movies and game menu.
Or at least I recall it stuttering, I'll try again when I come home for real later, but I'm 95% sure that Tactics was stuttering...

Re: Yet another stuttering sound problem!
Yup, my recollections where correct. 1.4 runs SFC well, good sound, slightly twitchy, but that's more likely due to my craptop. 1.5 does black screen for intro movie, good sound, offset screen.
1.4 runs Fallout Tactics well, double stuttering sound. 1.5 is black screen for intro movie, black screen's for everything else, and still has doubled up stuttering sound.

Re: Yet another stuttering sound problem!
Post terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log
Re: Yet another stuttering sound problem!
Log from 1.4 for Fallout Tactics
And log from 1.5 for same
Want logs for anything else that doesn't work right in 1.4/1.5? I can do logs, that's within my ability range

Re: Yet another stuttering sound problem!
There's nothing related to sound in either log. The problem may lie in PulseAudio; try disabling it before running the game.
Re: Yet another stuttering sound problem!
Tried 'pasuspender -- wine BOS.exe', get 'Connection failure: Connection refused' message...
'pactl exit' gets the same message...
'pulseaudio --kill' does...apparently nothing, same with --check...
In fact, just typing 'pulseaudio' makes terminal go stupid and give me a blank line until I get tired of waiting and break it...
I'm too tired to go play with init files and whatnot like this page tells me too: http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/tutorials/7130/2
I'll give that at try tomorrow or something when I have the time and the awake to give it a go.

Re: Yet another stuttering sound problem!
Remebered that i change something in the pulseaudiofile from 10 to 5get and the problem went away. Didnt remeberar how. Config.pa something. Fix the skype to.
Re: Yet another stuttering sound problem!
Gah, if I can tear myself away from staring at the spider crawling on my ceiling long enough, I'll go digging for that config file and the number 10

Re: Yet another stuttering sound problem!
In ubuntu , open terminal
then type "sudo nautilus"
edit the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf
change
realtime-priority = 10 to realtime-priority = 5 . Then reboot.
