Hi,
I am on Ubuntu 12.04 , kernel : 3.8.3-030803-generic , Wine wine-1.4.1.
I have been using wine for a while and all worked fine then today all of a sudden nothing worked.
I saw similar issues butu usally relating to audio/video drivers , nothing I think has happened on my end.
I am still checking this but like other people I cannot start a single wine component.
Has this bug/issue been officially resolved ?
I would like to fix this without losing all my data from wine(if possible).
wine: virtual memory exhausted
Re: wine: virtual memory exhausted
What bug? The only results I got from searching for "virtual memory exhausted" pointed to either a misconfigured system or a broken Wine package.
Your Wine version is old; try upgrading.

Re: wine: virtual memory exhausted
OK , tried that.It did recover - thank you. (did have minor issue with Steam invisible text but quick fix)
I thought this was a bug given the threads I have read on the issue.
I just have two questions :
1.Why isn;t 1.4.1 ,the stable version, enough ?
2.What did I do wrong i.e how did I "misconfigure" my system and how can I avoid doing it again ?

Re: wine: virtual memory exhausted
Based on your original description of what happened, my guess is that you probably updated some other package on your system and the new version of whatever package that was didn't work with the older Wine.
Re: wine: virtual memory exhausted
Could this happen with steam ?
If so then I have a bit of a problem considering I can't use it without updating.
I'll be more careful about my updates.

Re: wine: virtual memory exhausted
There is always the potential that an update to an app or game will break it in Wine.
