I trying to run the Weight Watchers ActiveLink software under Wine in Kubuntu 12.10 x64. ActiveLink comes with a usb device built by Philips:
Bus 006 Device 005: ID 0471:20c0 Philips (or NXP)
I tried using ndiswrapper so that Kubuntu would recognize the device. I don't think it's working:
$ ndiswrapper -l
sh: 0: getcwd() failed: No such file or directory
input : driver installed
The program, ActiveLinkConnect, runs under Wine, but does not detect the usb device. So, I'm stuck.
BTW, the application and device work properly within a Win7 virtualbox machine.
Any suggestions?

Windows hardware drivers don't work in Wine. If it works in Virtual Box, use that.

Aw, shucks.
Thanks for your reply. This device seems to be of the usb-hid group. If I can correctly get linux to recognize the device, then will wine be able to intereact with it? I don't think it will register as a storage device (it's more like a mouse, game controller, etc.)
I'm trying to get wine to work with this because it's for my wife, for whom dealing with real computers is hard enough without having to deal with a virtual one as well.

Wine's support for USB devices is poor. There is an old patch you can try. http://wiki.winehq.org/USB

If you don't want to resort to dual-booting, I'd recommend to install Windows XP in a VM like virtualbox or VMWare Player.
