Building Wine: Install Location & Parallel Versions?

Hi,

As noted here: Font Problem, I'm having font problems. It was suggested I build the latest Wine from scratch.

Using configure, make, make install, can I install this version in parallel with the Wine 1.4 Mint's repos provided, or must I remove the distro version first, as the instructions suggest I must?

Since at this point you're just testing to see whether it fixes the issue, there's no need to install it. Just run it from the build directory. If it does fix the problem, then uninstall the packaged version and install the one you built.

If it doesn't fix it, the next step would be to run a regression test and file a bug.
