Playing games using Wine or PlayOnLinux

Post by Dallas2coolio »

For playing games like WoW or other games is Wine Windows Program Loader better to use or PlayOnLinux better? Or can I have both installed so I can also use other Windows programs? I just don't know if I can have both installed and it would work fine. I do play games a lot so I wanted to make sure I get one that works the best.

Thanks

PlayOnLinux is merely a third party wrapper for Wine. AFAIK, it can coexist on the same system with a Wine package from your distro. Like all such third party wrappers, it is not supported here (they have their own forum). Whether to use it is your choice; my advice is to use whatever best meets your needs.

Depends on the game. Some work, some don't. Check the AppDB for info on the particular games you are interested in running.

Can I still use the stable Wine 1.4.1? Or will it be best to use the latest one? Like for games on the list seem like been tested with the 1.5 version or so but I don't know if the stable 1.4 will work fine. I do play WoW the most and seems like that it will work but it's been tested on 1.5 so I don't know if 1.4 will work. I usualy would rather have a stable system than a system that has problems but newer.

"Stable" refers to the branch, and means "doesn't change." It has nothing to do with performance. In most cases the latest development release will work better.
